AN ITINERARY AMONGST THE SPLENDOURS OF THE SICILIAN TERRITORY FOR THE MOTOGIRO D’ITALIA 2007 THAT BEGINS ON THE 20TH MAY FROM SCIACCA.

This year the oldest Italian motorcycle road race heads South. Ducati Motor is once again the events’ main sponsor, which is supported by the ‘Regione Siciliana’ and organised by Dream Engine.

At 9 o’clock in the morning of the 20th May, from piazza Scandaliato in Sciacca (Agrigento), the 2007 edition of the Motogiro d’Italia, historic revival of an Italian motorcycling classic, begins.
This year, the 5 legs of approximately 250km each will circulate between the spectacular Sicilian panorama, by “themes”, the renowned marine locations, the splendour of the Baroque, the wild nature of the Etna slopes and the circuits.

On the 20th May, leaving the beaches of Sciacca behind, famous for its ancient hot water springs, the motorcyclists will follow an inland route which will reach, amongst others, Cattolica Eraclea, Chiusa Sclafani, Sambuca di Sicilia and returning to Sciacca. During the first day, the Motogiro will do a chapter at the Valle dei Templi Racetrack di Racalmuto (AG).

The second leg (21st May) previews a passage through Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Piazza Armerina, Lentini, and Brucoli.

On the 22nd May departure is from Brucoli and the itinerary leads towards the Siracusa Racetrack to then touch Noto, Modica, Ragusa Ibla, Giarratana and returning to Brucoli.

The fourth leg (23rd May) is characterised by a splendid tour of the Etna towards Catania, Mascalucia, Zafferana Etnea, Acireale, Acitrezza, Carlentini and finally Brucoli.

On the 24th May, the fifth and last leg will cross Grammichele, Caltagirone, Gela, Palma di Montechiaro, Siculiana, Porto Empedocle, ending in Sciacca.
In the evening, the event will conclude itself in beauty with the prize giving dinner, made possible thanks to the support of the Presidenza della Regione Siciliana, during which the best classified rider of each leg and overall will be awarded. The fortunate overall winner will take home a Ducati Sport1000 from the SportClassic range.

During the Motogiro, careful attention will be dedicated to local gastronomy. Each day, at the leg arrivals in Sciacca and Brucoli, as well as in rest points along the way, tasting of the best products of the Sicilian enogastronomy will take place.

The previous editions, from 2001 to 2006 have seen a constant rise of interest and enthusiasm towards the Motogiro, from the 120 initial participants numbers have almost tripled, reaching almost 350 international attendants (Italy, Great Britain, USA, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Holland, Belgium, South Africa, Japan, Australia, Canada, Greece and Israel). Hundreds of motorbikes old and new, the most important Italian and foreign collectors and numerous enthusiasts contribute to recreating the atmosphere, the style and the spirit of the original race which reached its popularity pinnacle between 1953 and 1957. Once again in 2007 to maintain the link with history, the champions of the 1950’s Motogiro, such as Giuliano Maoggi, Emilio Mendogni and Remo Venturi (who will celebrate the 50° anniversary of his victory) will be guest of honour of the event and will showcase the best of the Italian motorcycle production.

The Motogiro d’Italia 2007 relies on the support of Ducati Motor the event’s main sponsor and is also made possible thanks to the support of: Presidenza Regione Siciliana, Assessorato al Turismo Regione Siciliana, Assessorato all’Agricoltura and Foreste Regione Siciliana, Motociclismo d'Epoca, Comune di Sciacca, Comune di Augusta, Cantine Calatrasi. For the organization of the event, that takes place under the aegis of the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana, Dream Engine relies on the technical collaboration of Motoclub Terni “L. Liberati” e dell’Auto Moto Club Viterbo. The Curve&Tornanti team, made up of Federal FMI ‘safe riding’ instructors, accompanies participants in the Tourist Class.

The Motogiro is open to motorcycles authorized for road use of all marques and is divided into three classes: Vintage Racing Class (max 175 cc, motorbike manufactured prior to 1957), Taglioni Memorial Class (minimum 350 cc, motorbikes produced between1968 and 1978) and Touring Class (for motorbikes of recent manufacture, non competitive mode).
